Delicious Finnish food & sightseeing in Helsinki

Yesterday was such a beautiful day here in Helsinki! My best friend and I decided to go to the center and visit some of the touristy places. While they are ‘touristy’, they’re also very popular among the locals. The market square has vendors selling everything from fish to fur slippers. My favorite place is the market square hall, which is an indoor collection of little restaurants and food vendors. Everything looks and smells so delicious its hard to pick what to eat.

Here’s a few pictures of their amazing selections.

You can see that fish is a huge staple in Finnish cuisine! I actually settled for a crawfish salad on rye, and my friend had the smoked salmon on rye. They were delicious!

While I’m sure you can’t read all of the labels, you can definitely read the prices! Yes, it’s quite pricey, but I think it’s totally worth it.

Another delicacy in Finnish cuisine (which is very pricey) is reindeer meat! As you can see in the picture below, it’s almost 70 euros for the cold smoked reindeer meat. The reindeer meet here is native to Finland, and is generally from the Lapland.

Of course, no meal is complete without dessert! This was an amazing chocolate vendor that had so many different flavors to choose from. After amply sampling 🙂 we decided on the sugarless chocolate, that was delicious and (of course) lower in calories!

Now that your mouth is watering over your keyboard 😛 , we can move on to some beautiful architecture here in Helsinki.

We’d been walking the whole day, so we decided to take one of the sightseeing open trams. You guys will be able to see that some of the photos were taken from the tram.

Here’s the Central Railway Station

beautiful Orthodox church right by the market

You can actually see the market tents in the background, it’s situated right by the sea.

There was a show going on at the Esplande Park by an African church here in Helsinki.

The beautiful Tuomio Church.

Inside of the church, right before a wedding started and we had to leave 🙂

Front view of the church that was also host to a Samba Festival going on in it’s courtyard. There were so many people!
